Mick Jenkins the patience

AN ALBUM REVIEW

Alright, alright, alright, I know I’m mad late on this one 😂. But, my homie Brandon just put me onto this Mick Jenkins album titled “The Patience.” The album came out in August of 2023, that’s how late I am. But, better late than never right? I used to listen to Mick Jenkins heavy back in like 2015-2016, but for whatever reason I kind of stopped. I don’t know what it was, it wasn’t like I felt any different about his music or anything. Maybe me going through different life experiences made all of the difference. But yea, The Patience.

You gon’ have to show me - can’t just tell me shit
Too much talkin’ and you soundin’ like you sellin’ shit
You gon’ have to show me -, you gon’ have to
— Mick Jenkins

This album is BIG HEAT 🔥🔥🔥. It opens up with a track called “Michelin Star.” This track sets the tone for not only the album, but also, what feels like a “refreshed” Mick Jenkins. Bro sounds hungrier than ever. The beat is subtile, with soft harmonizing vocals in the background, while Mick gets off aggressive and whitty bars. I literally caught myself like “ah ok, here we go.” It really laid the foundation, for me, for the album. That track then bleeds over into the song “Show & Tell” (feat. Freddie Gibbs). Bar after bar Mick is spitting some lines that stand true as hell. This ends up being probably my favorite track on the album. Mr.Gibbs himself does what he always does and just made it that much better. The other two tracks that compete with “Show & Tell”, as far as my favorite off the album", are the tracks “Guapanese” & “Mop.” The track “Mop” is a dope outro to the project. Mick tones it down a little, his flow softens and he even gives some insight on his current processes & life. Other tracks I really liked are “Sitting Ducks”, “Smoke Break”, “007”, and “ROY G. BIV.” The beat on that last track is trippy 😂, but it’s dope also.

I recommend everyone to take a listen at this track. I’d say it’s gym approved, I could see myself listening to this while working out. Unfortunatley for me at this moment, I haven’t been in the gym due to surgery, but give this a go. I’ve been able to turn this album on and get work done as well. So really in any setting, other than a party, I can see this album being cut on.

Feel free to share your thoughts below. Different things I could add into these writes ups or maybe have you heard this before? If so, let me know ⬇️
